If you take the ‘love your enemy’ out of Christianity, you’ve ‘unChristianed” the Christian faith
‘Loving the enemy’ is a hard but essential teaching of Jesus the Christ. It is a radical statement that God’s approach to hatred is to respond with compassion and mercy. Yet even those of us who claim to follow Jesus often pass this teaching by on the other side, claiming it to be idealistic at best, cowardly at worst.
Yet to ignore it is to turn our back on the one who forgave even as he was murdered by the system.
Our (Un)Common Wisdom series offers thinkers within and outwith our Church a voice in our own reflections. Today we hear from one of our own, Alan McLeod, Eucharistic Minister in East Sutherland, as a follow-up to his recent article.
